Bounce awarded funding from PRS Foundation
We are delighted that our new development project, BOUNCE, has been awarded funding from the PRS for MusicFoundation.
BOUNCE will be an interactive performance for babies aged under 24 months, with an original score by Stephen Deazley, developed with and for clarinet soloist Pete Furniss.
BOUNCE draws on Stephen’s twenty-years experience in participatory-settings, but radically
redefined and set within an experimental context for a uniquely different audience. It will be an interactive performance-playspace for the very young, developed through a series of visceral sonic experiences and physical interactions/installations – a hero’s journey in which each new element presents challenges and opportunities for both chaos and phenomenal joy.
The work is, in essence, pure music and purely abstract, without any need for narrative, language or symbolic representation. It draws inspiration from the intense physical & emotional full-body experience of bouncing – a key moment in the physical development of babies who are upright-standing, but not yet walking. It becomes a moment of departure, the moment where adventuring and journeying begins. BOUNCE aims to be, a reimagining of the rules and expectations of music performance within a participatory context, and collaborations with designers, theatre-makers/physical perform.
Initial development took place earlier this year with Stephen and Pete trying out some musical ideas with our lovely test audience.
BOUNCE is supported by the PRS for MusicFoundation.
