Every step we take together

16 March 2020

Kinship families in North and South Ayrshire have worked with music and movement artists to create a music video in celebration of their kinship community.

Sound Kinnection was an 8-week community engagement programme that began with a Burns Supper in January 2020.

Over the following 4 weeks, during artist-facilitated sessions with musician Fraser Stone and movement artist Skye Reynolds, the families worked together exploring lyrics, music-making, sound recording, dance and creative movement, visual art and film.

The focus was always on positive, shared creative experiences – having fun and enjoying quality time together away from some of the challenges of day-to-day life.

This project was delivered in partnership with Citizens Advice Scotland’s Kinship Care Service, supported by Bank of Scotland Foundation, JTH Charitable Trust, Western Recreation Trust, Hope Pilkington Trust, Tesco Groundworks, Persimmon Homes Building Futures.

Participant reflections:

“[Sound Kinnection] took us out of our comfort zone and was very motivational”

“It was good to see adults and children having fun together with smiles on their faces all the time.”

“Kids and adults loved Fraser and Skye. They really brought everything together in a fun way without realising you were learning music, beats and dance.”

With special thanks to all the fantastic kinship families involved.
