Early Years Artist, Corrie McKendrick joins the Starcatchers team to lead a new creative project Girvan Creative Babies, in partnership with Children 1st.
The 5-month project works closely with identified families in South Ayrshire, with Corrie delivering weekly creative play ideas designed around a Play at Home pack full of materials to inspire child-led, open-ended play that is a shared experience between children birth-3 and their adults.
Corrie will collaborate with Scottish-based artists to provide families with weekly themed activities in the packs, such as fun with textures, and playing with sound, and support each pack with digital engagement through Children 1st online channels.
Corrie is an Early Years artist who lives in Glasgow. He has a theatre background and particularly enjoys leading playful activities for wee ones and their grown-ups that use drama, music, movement, storytelling, visual art and all kinds of play. Corrie has worked with a variety of companies, including in Scotland, the USA, and in China.
“Girvan Creative Babies is a project that encourages wee ones and the important grown-ups in their lives to take some time and space to engage in fun, playful activities together.
The activities are designed to encourage different types of play, like outdoor play, messy play and sensory play to name but a few. Our activities are designed to be multi-artform to allow wee ones and their grown-ups to have a wide range of fun experiences together to help benefit early childhood development and positive attachments.”
Girvan Creative Babies is funded by the National Lottery Awards for All until April 2021. Outdoor, in-person sessions, including doorstep play, are in development and will be based on current Covid-19 restrictions.
