Starcatchers Code of Conduct
At Starcatchers, everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, welcomed and valued. Whether you are an employee, freelance artist, facilitator, volunteer or creative practitioner, you play an important role in creating inclusive, joyful and high-quality experiences for babies, young children and their families.
When working with or on behalf of Starcatchers, you are expected to:
Put children, families and wellbeing first
- Prioritise the safety, wellbeing and rights of babies, children and families.
- Read, understand and follow Starcatchers’ Safeguarding, Health & Safety and relevant organisational policies.
- Recognise and report any concerns about a child’s welfare immediately, following Starcatchers’ safeguarding procedures.
Create welcoming and inclusive spaces
- Treat everyone with dignity, kindness and respect.
- Value difference and actively contribute to an inclusive environment where everyone feels they belong.
- Do not tolerate bullying, harassment, discrimination, intimidation or abusive behaviour in any form.
Work professionally
- Be a positive role model through your behaviour, language and actions.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with participants and families.
- Do not share personal contact details, connect through personal social media accounts, offer lifts, or spend time alone with a child or vulnerable adult.
- Respect confidentiality and handle personal information responsibly.
Keep everyone safe
- Plan activities responsibly, complete or follow risk assessments, and use materials and spaces safely.
- Report hazards, incidents and unsafe practice promptly, and take action as required according to Starcatchers’ Health & Safety procedures.
- Support emergency procedures and help maintain safe working environments always referring to project or event risk assessments.
Work together
- Communicate openly, respectfully and collaboratively with colleagues, families and partners.
- Share information appropriately where it is necessary to protect someone’s safety or wellbeing as per Starcatchers’ Safeguarding policy.
- Ask for advice or support whenever you are unsure from your line manager or designated Starcatchers’ contact.
Represent Starcatchers
- Act with integrity, honesty and professionalism.
- Behave in a way that reflects Starcatchers’ values and protects the reputation of the organisation.
- Understand that serious breaches of this Code or Starcatchers’ policies may result in disciplinary action or termination of your engagement.
