Yellow Valley… is where the two-to four years olds get their imagination taken on a story-telling adventure with a difference… It’s a vivid tapestry of sounds, rhythm, catchy songs and the kind of reiterations of words and actions little ones happily join in with.

Yellow Valley is a loveable, contemporary, musical-storytelling performance, created especially for children aged 2 to 4 years old, inspired by Kenyan children’s book Who’s Calling by Charity Waciuma. Join us as we recreate this quirky story with live African music, electronic vocal effects and energetic performances to tell the tale of a feisty little girl and her animal friends who strike up a disagreement with another, cheekier, little girl (and all her animal friends) across the valley. Adapted and Directed by Xana Marwick.

Created and Directed by Xana Marwick with performers Drew Wright and Dougie Hudson, Yellow Valley tells the story of Kamwende, a little girl who lives in a valley and sets out on a journey to find her brother Ndoro. ‘Over the mountain, under the tree, follow the river so wild and free’. As Kamwende calls out for her brother she hears another girl repeating her calls mocking her. She returns each time with a new animal friend who calls out with her and is met with the same response. Interwoven with songs and performance, Yellow Valley is an engaging theatrical storytelling experience for young audiences.

Yellow Valley was created in 2014 as part of the Culture 2014 programme during the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
