Rainbow-coloured creativity packs delivered to our Expecting Something families kick-start a new block of artist-led sessions for this Spring.

Full of open-ended materials to help fuel imaginative play and creativity, the packs will be used during Expecting Something sessions facilitated remotely by Starcatchers artists – live and interactive as well as pre-recorded.

Expecting Something is normally held weekly at Whale Arts, Edinburgh and Lochgelly Centre, Fife, a weekly safe space for young parents and their babies 0-2 to engage with artists and spend time being playful and creative all together.

Even though being together physically isn’t possible at the moment, artists Kerry Cleland, Marion Geoffray and Katy Wilson are determined to stay connected with the families and help inspire imaginative play and creativity in their own homes.

“These groups have developed really strong bonds and value this time together and with their little ones”, said Kerry Cleland.

“For the time being, the sessions are being delivered remotely but at least some will be interactive so participants are connecting with people they already know, and the artists can be responsive.

“As with our face-to-face sessions the artists come with an overarching theme and ‘props’, which the participants will find in their packs, as provocations and inspirations. However, the babies and their parents’ imaginations and ideas bring it all to life. They are all most definitely a community of creators!

“Our aim is to continue inspiring new ideas, having fun together and bringing joy whilst these families are at home.”

Keep an eye out for Starcatchers’ Wee Inspirations – fun, creative ideas to engage little ones. Some of these will be inspired by our Expecting Something artists and the sessions they deliver over the coming weeks.
