The Art of Human Connection
MamaBabaMe – Starcatchers’ and Curious Seed’s unique dance, physical theatre and live music experience for babies and young children 0-3 – has been announced (24th May) as part of the Made in Scotland showcase 2018.
Following its critically acclaimed tour in 2017, we are delighted that tickets are now on sale for MamaBabaMe at The Pleasance EICC, 1-17 August, as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2018.
The show has been created specifically for babies and young children 0-3 and their grown-ups to enjoy together. Our audiences will sit within a mini circular arena with cushioned boundary edges and soft, intimate lighting. The performance, with live music composed by award-winning musician Greg Sinclair, explores the profound and vital connection that exists between adult and child, which begins before a baby is born and evolves as the child develops and begins to explore the world.
“Creator and director, Christine Devaney, said: “I wanted to create a show that explores the beauty, depth and complexity of the vital connection between babies and the adults in their lives, and also celebrates it. MamaBabaMe is a performance that baby and adult can experience together because we can all, babies included, respond in a very powerful way to a beautiful piece of live classical music and dance.
“Neuroscience has helped us understand the importance of babies’ earliest experiences of relationships, how these relationships shape brain development and have a lasting impact on our lives. We’re also much more aware of the incredible capacity that even the youngest babies have to engage with the world around them.”
Rhona Matheson, Chief Executive of Starcatchers, said: “We are delighted that MamaBabaMe has been selected to be part of the Made in Scotland showcase this year, enabling us to work with Curious Seed to create a unique dance, drama and live music experience that babies and their adults can enjoy together. Experiences like MamaBabaMe allow us all, including babies, to ‘be in the moment’, to explore the world with all of our senses and encourage dialogue, connection and empathy.”
MamaBabaMe delighted audiences when it toured across Scotland in 2017:
“I found it quite emotional as a mum and enjoyed watching my son engage. The standard of music/performance was excellent.”
“What an amazing experience for tiny ones. The set design was fab.”
