Wee Inspirations

Festive Window Display

  1. The Basic Idea

Create a festive window display with your wee one to brighten up the dark nights this festive season. Work together to design your scene using black card and colorful tissue paper. Cut out different shapes and either attach them to a piece of tracing paper to stick on your window, or, if you don’t have any, place them directly on the glass.

  2. Over to you, wee one

Let your little one take the lead in designing their display. It doesn’t have to follow a traditional festive theme—encourage them to explore what sparks their curiosity and express themselves in their own way. Talk to them whilst they are creating the display, by asking questions to make the process even more fun.

  3. Cheeky Bonuses

    • Problem-solving skills
    • Imagination and creativity
    • Helps develop fine motor control
    • Helps wee ones to develop their spatial awareness
    • Language development: talking about different shapes and colours
  4. Variations

    • Some wee ones may prefer to rip the paper which is absolutely fine – ripping and throwing then sticking the pieces down wherever they land can be a great way to make abstract art.
    • Add different lights behind your display to really give it a festive glow
    • Talk with your wee one about how the window looks different in the daytime compared to the nighttime, what differences can they spot?
    • Add your window to Window Wanderland and share your beautiful window design with your community
  5. And Remember...

Remember it doesn’t need to be perfect! It’s the process of creating together that is the most important. If you know you struggle with a need for things to be “perfect” think about some extra materials to make your own art – that way your wee one can express themselves freely and so can you.
